Beijing universities have joined forces to contribute to the high-quality growth and effective management of Xiong’an New Area, situated in Hebei province. As part of this endeavor, Beijing Jiaotong University, the University of Science and Technology Beijing, the China University of Geosciences (Beijing), and Beijing Forestry University, the first four universities from the capital to establish campuses in Xiong’an, have jointly established a collaborative innovation alliance. This alliance seeks to foster a comprehensive approach to teaching, research, and talent development, aiming to serve as a pioneering model for innovation in the region.
The inaugural collaborative innovation alliance
The collaborative innovation alliance was officially founded on September 23, bringing together these four prestigious universities. Additionally, it includes nine provincially administrated universities in Hebei, 12 related companies, and nine scientific research institutions. Notable members of the alliance encompass the Hebei University of Technology, HBIS Group (one of the world’s largest steel manufacturers), and the 13th Research Institute of China Electronic Technology Group. The alliance anticipates expanding its membership base in the near future.
Objectives and priorities
The primary mission of this collaborative alliance is to promote coordinated innovation among universities that have extended their presence from Beijing to Xiong’an, ultimately advancing the development of Xiong’an New Area. Yu Zujun, President of Beijing Jiaotong University and the inaugural chairman of the alliance, emphasized the importance of cooperation and mutual development among the member institutions.
To achieve their goals, alliance members have signed a commitment to cooperate closely, engage in joint area development initiatives, exchange experiences, and cultivate talent collaboratively. Each university involved brings its unique strengths and expertise to the table.

- University of Science and Technology Beijing: This institution is committed to exploring innovations in education, talent cultivation, and development driven by scientific and technological advancements. President Yang Renshu underlines their dedication to fostering a vibrant ecosystem of innovation.
- Beijing Forestry University: Leveraging its expertise in forestry, landscape architecture, soil and water conservation, and desertification prevention and control, the university aims to make significant contributions in these areas. President An Lizhe highlights their role in addressing environmental and ecological challenges.
- China University of Geosciences (Beijing): This university’s focus is on nurturing innovative talent in Xiong’an and creating conducive conditions for their growth and development in the region. Lei Yalin, Party chief of the university, underscores their commitment to fostering a new generation of innovators.
The establishment of the collaborative innovation alliance among these esteemed Beijing universities marks a significant step towards supporting the sustainable growth and development of Xiong’an New Area.
