The country’s robotics industry generated revenue exceeding 170 billion yuan ($23.3 billion) in the previous year, maintaining a consistent double-digit growth rate. Notably, China’s sales of industrial robots accounted for over half of the world’s total in 2022, solidifying its position as a global leader for the tenth consecutive year. In the first half of the current year, China’s output of industrial robots surged by 5.4 percent year-on-year, amounting to 222,000 units. In the same period, the country witnessed a 9.62 percent year-on-year increase in the production of service robots, reaching an impressive 3.53 million units.
A major testament to China’s dominance in the field is its market share in industrial robot installations, which exceeded 50 percent globally in 2022. Furthermore, investments in the country’s robotics industry have been substantial, with over 30 billion yuan flowing into the sector in the previous year.
Looking ahead, China is poised to reinforce its commitment to robotics through technological breakthroughs and innovation in key components of this transformative technology. The nation aims to foster world-class robotics industrial clusters, ensuring the stability of the global robotics industrial and supply chains. With a staggering density of 392 robots per 10,000 employees in the manufacturing sector, robots have already found application in 65 industries and 206 sub-industries. Their presence is expanding rapidly across emerging fields such as new energy, automobiles, lithium batteries, and photovoltaics.
Jose Vieira, the president of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations, recognizes China’s pivotal role in global technological innovation. He underscores the significance of robotics in driving efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing product quality. He emphasizes the need for a harmonious balance between innovation and industrial development while advocating for inclusive and sustainable robotics growth.

China’s ascent as the fastest-growing robot market globally, characterized by the highest annual installations, is further validated by the International Federation of Robotics. The country has consistently held the largest operational stock of robots each year since 2016, a testament to its unwavering dedication to technological advancement.
